The school holidays are over, so now is the time to target couples. Check out our round-up of the best adult-only breaks. Joanna Booth reports
Now the kids are back at school, you have time to go away – just the two of you. But with so many adult-only resorts to choose from it can be hard to see the wood for the trees.
Joanna Booth reviews the pick of the bunch.
For exclusivity: The House, Barbados
There are just 34 suites in this adult-only boutique on St James beach, on the island’s prestigious west coast.
You’ll be met at the airport and whisked away in a luxury car. On arrival at the hotel you will meet your ‘personal service ambassador’ who will look after you throughout your stay.
Duvets are goose feather, and you’ll be plied with cold towels and Evian spritzers on the beach.
Daphne’s is the hotel’s beachfront restaurant, which is the sister of the establishment of the same name in London’s Chelsea.
The Barbadian branch is a celeb haunt, hosting Claudia Schiffer, Cindy Crawford, Kevin Bacon and Mariah Carey.

For culture: Iberostar Grand Hotel, Cuba
Get away from the strip of beachfront all-inclusive hotels in Varadero and find the real Cuba in Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
This charming Spanish colonial town has many museums, although you can get a dose of Cuban culture just by wandering the narrow cobbled streets and stopping for a mojito in one of the streetside bars.
Iberostar’s adult-only hotel is in keeping with the colonial tradition – opt for a room with a balcony overlooking the square.
For pampering: The Body Holiday at Le Sport, St Lucia
The Body Holiday is an experience designed to pamper body and mind.
The spa has over 50 treatments, including eight different kinds of massage, aromatherapy, facials, reflexology and an exhilarating Swiss needle shower.
A nutritionist can advise on diet and the programme is intended to aid mind as well as body, with yoga, meditation and other stress-relief techniques.
Activities include diving, sailing, watersports, tennis, archery, fencing, volleyball, cycling, walking, pilates and fitness classes.
If that sounds too much, lounge around in your robe or enjoy a glass of wine in the piano bar.
For experiences: Warner Leisure Hotels, UK
Do you fancy a helicopter ride across the Solent, off-roading or learning ballroom or belly dancing?
Warner Leisure Hotels offers a choice of 600 experience breaks across 13 adult-only UK properties.
Each break is led by an expert in the field, including celebrities such as Strictly Come Dancing’s Anton Du Beke.
There are breaks on many themes including heritage and culture, gardening, music, dance, sport and self-improvement.
All breaks include en-suite accommodation, three-course dinners, breakfast, live nightly entertainment and use of the leisure facilities.
For food and drink: P&O Cruises, Arcadia
Superliner Arcadia has a Gary Rhodes fine dining restaurant serving his signature British cuisine with a twist.
Passengers can be sure their meals won’t be interrupted by misbehaving children, because the ship is purely for grown ups.
The Mediterranean itinerary docks at many destinations also famed for their gastronomic delights, including Barcelona and Rome.
