People travelling by road to Gatwick faced disruption this morning following an overnight motorway crash.
The M23 southbound was closed due to investigation work into a road traffic collision from M25 Junction 8 for Redhill and Junction 9 for Gatwick at about midnight.
Surrey Police confirmed the M23 had closed due to a “serious collision” involving two vehicles.
The M23 southbound re-opened after being closed for more than seven hours.
The airport warned drivers of “severe congestion” this morning.
A return to normal traffic conditions was not expected until between 9.30am 9.45am, according to Highways England.
