Charity names Jet2.com and Jet2holidays corporate partner of the year

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays have become corporate partner of the year for international charity Hope for Children

The announcement was made today (Giving Tuesday) in recognition of the way that the sister airline and tour operator has taken its support for the charity to the heart of its business.

Staff and customers have raised more than £100,000 for Hope for Children since 2010, an achievement recognised at an awards ceremony in London.

A number of initiatives have contributed to the total, including donations by customers through on board scratch cards, as well as activities including dress down Fridays, charity skydives, Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge, sponsored runs and charity bike rides.

Staff working at the company’s headquarters in Leeds are preparing to take part in a Christmas Jumper Day on December 20, with all the money raised to be doubled thanks to Hope for Children being selected by the Department for International Development to receive match funding in support of its first national fundraising appeal.

Hope for Children’s Head Held High Appeal will run until December 23, raising funds for vulnerable children in Africa who are being denied their basic right to education.

The appeal aims to raise funds to transform the lives of at least 1,500 children living in poverty in Ghana and East Africa by ensuring they have access to a quality education.

Through the UK Aid Match scheme, every pound donated or raised during the appeal, will be matched by the government.

Jet2.com and Jet2holidays chief executive, Steve Heapy, said: “We are very proud to be recognised as corporate partner of the year by Hope for Children.

“Our colleagues are passionate about our long-term support for this fantastic charity, and thanks to their generosity as well as the kindness of our customers, we have been able to raise over £100,000.

“We will be doing everything we can to encourage donations for the Head Held High Appeal, as the pound for pound matching by the UK government will make a huge difference.”

Murielle Maupoint, chief executive of the charity, said: “We are so grateful to Jet2.com and Jet2holidays for their years of commitment and support. The corporate partner of the year award was more competitive than ever before in 2017, and we felt the unwavering enthusiasm and passion of colleagues and customers to support our life-changing work gave them the edge.

“And it’s wonderful to see that they are carrying this into the festive period in support of our Head Held High Appeal.
