AGENTS have hit out at Allegro Holidays claiming they were left thousands of pounds out of pocket after the Turkey specialist cancelled the last three flights of the season.
One agent, who asked not to be named, said he had lost around £10,000 following the move. He said he had to refund customers and would wait at least three months before receiving the money from the Civil Aviation Authority.
“It is not a great time for this to happen. Agencies have a lot of negative cashflow,” he said.
Newcastle-based Freedom Direct is owed £5,000. Managing director Martin Jones said:”We were promised money from Allegro the day after the cancellations. That was on October 3.”
Allegro managing director Norman Meredith said most travel agencies have been reimbursed and the remainder will receive their money by today.
He blamed the withdrawal of the flights on the earthquake in Marmaris. He said the operator had now renewed its Air Travel Organiser’s Licence after failing to renew it in time for the September 29 deadline.
