n P&O introduces28,800-tonne acquitaine



P&O Stena Line is to replace the smallest vessel in its cross-Channel fleet with the largest ship ever to serve the Dover-Calais route. The 28,800-tonne Acquitaine, which has a capacity of 2,000 passengers and 600 cars, joined the fleet today (November 1). Acquitaine will replace the13,600-tonne Picardy, which will be withdrawn from service in December.



n mauritius hotel to open 10 days early



Beau Rivage, Naiade Resorts’ third hotel in Mauritius, is opening 10 days before expected. The four-star luxury property will become fully operational on November 5 and not November 15, as anticipated. The official opening takes place on December 10.



n sales director quits midland main line post



Midland Main Line sales and marketing director Vince Sears has left his position after 10 months. A spokesman for the train operator said Sears had resigned last month for personal reasons. A replacement is being sought.



n irish ferries buys normandy for $18.4m



Irish Ferries has announced plans to purchase the ferry Normandy for $18.4m from Swedish company Gotland Shipping. The ship has been under charter to Irish Ferries for two years. A refurbishment project is planned just before the summer season in 2001.



n ayscough winsb elliott travel deal



Ayscough Travel has won the £500,000 business travel account of engineering group B Elliott, which has 10 companies under its umbrella. The account will be run from Ayscough’s Heathrow Travel Management Centre.
