Premier looks to expand as Thomson pulls out of talks

CAMBRIDGE-based miniple Premier Travel is planning to increase its number of shops after Thomson pulled out of talks with the company.

The 15-branch agency, which has also been linked to Airtours, is eyeing the possibility of buying a number of one or two-shop businesses.

Managing director Renford Sargent said he was also considering joining a consortium to protect the company’s profits.

“The gap is widening between consortium commission rates and those of the larger independent miniples such as ourselves,” he said.

“I will consider ventures that will enhance our bottom line and joining a consortium could do that.”

Thomson approached Premier in August but had its bid rejected.
