British skier killed in French Alps

A British skier has been killed in the French Alps after falling 200 metres while skiing off-piste

Reports say the man, who was in his 20s, was with two friends near Oz en Oisans when they became lost and ended up on a very steep and icy slope at the weekend.

One of the other men suffered minor injuries while the third escaped unscathed after they removed their skis to climb back uphill.

A spokesman for the mountain rescue police in Grenoble, told The Daily Telegraph: “They were following ski tracks but they got lost when the tracks came to an end.”

The dead man, who has not been named, was reported to have been killed instantly when he fell onto rocks.

The Foreign Office said it was giving support to the dead man’s family.

Confirming the death, the foreign Office said in a statement: “We remain in close contact with local authorities. Our thoughts are with the family at this difficult time.”
