Ice caused delays and cancellations at Gatwick last night, compounding a weekend of bad weather-related air travel chaos.
The airport apologised to affected passengers, saying the problems were “due to the prolonged cold snap and the essential de-icing requirements which have mounted during the afternoon and evening”.
All Flybe services at Exeter airport were cancelled and passengers are warned to expect disruption until mid-morning today.
Exeter airport said: “The overnight snowfall is being cleared and the runway expected to be open later this morning [Monday].
“Airlines will advise passengers of any cancellation or changes to their booking.”
Bristol airport was closed temporarily due to the snowfall yesterday while Heathrow, Stansted and Luton remain mainly unaffected but urged passengers to check flight information before travelling.
Bristol airport remained open despite reporting further snowfall overnight but warned of disruption due to the adverse weather conditions.
Almost 20 flights from Manchester airport were cancelled yesterday by Aer Lingus, British Airways, easyJet, Flybe and Lufthansa.
British Airways was among a number of airlines forced to consolidate flights at Heathrow yesterday due to the poor weather conditions across parts of the UK.
In an update for today, BA said: “We plan to run our normal schedule of flights, although the risk of poor weather at some airports on our network remains in place and therefore there may be some minor changes to our overall schedule if that poor weather materialises and affects those airports’ abilities to handle flights.”
A Met Office yellow warning for ice is in place for most of England and Wales, central and southern Scotland and parts of Northern Ireland until 10am.
