A fresh water tank to transform lives at a primary school in Kenya is to be provided after Barrhead Travel staff raised £8,000 for water charity Just a Drop.
The Scottish agency’s employees took part in a range of activities to raise the money for the children of Songeni Primary School.
Barrhead Travel is continuing a partnership with Just a Drop for 2018 and employees will now be voting for the next project to support over the next 12 months.
The agency encourages staff to hold fundraising events throughout their branches and departments, from teams participating in the Glasgow half marathon to holding a bake sales and hosting games nights.
Customers are also encouraged to make a donation of 50p per passenger when booking their holiday.
CEO Sharon Munro said: “Giving back to charities and our local communities is a huge part of life at Barrhead Travel.
“We work with so many local and nationwide charities as well as charities making an impact across the world, such as Just a Drop.
“We are delighted we have been able to raise the funds needed for Songeni School, and are in the process of selecting the next Just a Drop project to work towards.”
The charity’s head of fundraising and communications Brendan Hanlon said: “We’re thrilled Barrhead Travel have reached the target to fund Songeni School.
“Work has already started to build the water tank and it should be ready by the time the rains come, so the 139 children there will soon have safe water all year round.
“This will transform their lives and all the great people at Barrhead Travel should feel very proud of their achievement. We’re very grateful and looking forward to continuing our partnership, raising funds for our next project.”
