Bmi marks Stansted-Derry anniversary with £45 sale

Bmi is marking the first anniversary of a Stansted-Derry service by releasing cut price £45 one-way fares during May.

Single fares on the airline’s first route from a London airport can cost at least £128 depending on the time of booking and day of departure.

The twice-daily service was the fastest selling in the regional carrier’s history before it started.

The schedule is timed to allow business travellers to make the return trip to and from London or Derry in a day, without the need for an overnight stay.

The airline’s chief commercial officer Jochen Schnadt said: “The Stansted-Derry route is our first departure from a London airport so we are delighted with its strong performance.

“It is a great example of our strategic focus on key trade and business flight links, and how our aim to provide a quality service at convenient times is fuelling customer demand.

“The north-west region of Ireland is currently undergoing a sustained period of investment and economic growth, and the success of the route in its first year demonstrates how vital it is for businesses in the region to be well connected to the UK capital.”

Charlene Shongo, Derry airport manager, added: “The very popular double daily service has enabled travellers throughout the north-west to depart City of Derry Airport early morning and return the same evening as well as acting as a catalyst for in-bound business and leisure tourism to the region.”
