TUI could close Salford office

TUI Travel UK is considering proposals to close its Salford office by the end of year forcing some 400 members of staff to relocate or be made redundant.

Pre-departure customer services and business services teams will be moved to existing offices in Coventry; weddings, crew staff and post-departure customer services teams will move to Luton; and Island Cruises posts will move to the company’s specialist Cruise Operation in Swansea.

IT, e-commerce and business development functions, currently located in Coventry, will also shift Luton.

According to the company, the move is part of the ongoing integration following the merger of TUI AG’s tourism arm and First Choice Holidays in 2007.

The company said affected staff would be offered relocation support.

In a statement, a company said:  “We do realise announcements of this nature can be worrying. We will be working very closely with the staff affected over the coming weeks to understand what this means for them, and to ensure any changes are handled sensitively and fairly. This includes a full consultation with our staff which will commence shortly.”
