Sandals sponsors Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge cricket game

Sandals is sponsoring tonight’s Hurricane Relief T20 Challenge cricket match at Lords.

The 40-over game is due to begin at 6pm with the West Indies taking on a Rest of the World XI at the famous stadium known as the ‘home of cricket’.

Proceeds from the event will go towards rebuilding and restoring five major cricketing venues in the Caribbean that were damaged by Hurricanes Irma and Maria in September 2017.

The grounds include Ronald Webster Park in Anguilla; Windsor Park Stadium in Dominica; A.O. Shirley Recreation Ground in the British Virgin Islands; Carib Lumber Ball Park in St Maarten and Sir Viv Richards Stadium in Antigua, which was converted to host refugees from Barbuda following the tropical storms.

Funds raised through the event will also go towards aiding other community cricket facilities in the Caribbean.

West Indies’ current team, skippered by Carlos Brathwaite and featuring IPL stars Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, Evin Lewis and Marlon Samuels will take on a World XI featuring England players Adil Rashid, Tymal Mills, Sam Billings and Sam Curran, Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi, Afghan legspinner Rashid Khan and Sandeep Lamichhane of Nepal.

Sandals, which has 16 all-inclusive resorts in the Caribbean, is sponsoring the game and will have its logo on the shirts of the West Indies team.

Managing director Karl Thompson said: “As ambassadors for the Caribbean, Sandals is delighted to be involved in such a prestigious event. The brand has been the pioneer of luxury hospitality initiatives for over 30 years in the region, so to be able to give something back always means a great deal to everybody involved with Sandals.”
