One British backpacker has been killed and four injured after a 4×4 crashed on Fraser Island in Queensland.
The vehicle carrying a group of European tourists overturned on the beach on Saturday. Ian Davy, 22, from Yorkshire was killed at the scene along with an Italian woman.
Two other passengers were seriously injured and taken to a hospital in Brisbane, while others were treated by local doctors.
It is thought the driver of the 4×4 swerved to avoid a wave and lost control, causing some passengers to be thrown out the car.
Pictures from the scene showed luggage strewn across Seventy Mile Beach on Fraser Island, a popular tourist spot. There have been 120 serious accidents on the island in the past six years, as tourists drive cars on the beach without experience or training.
