A British holidaymaker died in Ibiza after leaping off a cliff and landing on a rocky outcrop while celebrating his 24th birthday.
Paul Gardner, from North Shields, Tyne and Wear, repeatedly dived into the sea at Cala Gracio beach, San Antonio, from a height of eight or nine metres before apparently missing his footing yesterday afternoon and hitting the rocks rather than the water.
Lifeguards on a speedboat took him to the beach, where an ambulance quickly arrived, a local newspaper reported.
Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Mr Gardner, but he had already gone into cardiac arrest and died on the beach.
He had arrived at the four-star Orosol hotel on Sunday and was due to fly home at the end of the week, The Times reported.
Several Britons have died in separate incidents in San Antonio this summer, including Conor Spraggs, a 23-year-old man from Stevenage, Hertfordshire.
Four British men have appeared in court for questioning over his death after getting into a fight early on Sunday morning.
