A children’s book entitled Reach for the Sky has been published by Manchester airport as part of its 80th birthday celebrations.
The story about travel, determination and achieving your dreams is aimed at primary school pupils.
It was written by Wendy Sinfield, the airport’s community relations manager.
The airport will be giving 5,000 copies of the book to give away to schools across its region.
Schools are also being given the chance to have an ‘aviation assembly’ where the books will be presented alongside an interactive airport workshop.
Airport chief operating officer Tricia Williams said: “For our 8oth year we wanted to do a host of activity that would inspire and inform a whole range of our stakeholders, so what better way to reach out to the flyers or workforce of the future.
“As well as being fun and entertaining our very first children’s book will also inform and educate, with our staff going into assemblies to inspire pupils with their tales of airport life.”
She added: “The release of the book is just one strand of our dedicated year-round education programme.
“In the last year alone, our staff engaged with 15,000 pupils across our catchment area through a range of initiatives including A Level masterclasses, What’s My Job workshops and work experience programmes.”
