n lufthansa launches daily frankfurt service



Lufthansa is launching a new daily service to Frankfurt from Birmingham on November 1 for business travellers, giving passengers a full day in Germany’s financial centre. The service leaves at 7.30am, arriving back in the UK at 10.50pm. Also new is the airline’s Newcastle to Hamburg route, due to start on October 31. The service will run from Monday to Friday, and will be operated by Augsburg Airways.



n places available for passion play



Moswin Tours, Taber Holidays and DER Travel have a few places left on packages to the Oberammergau Passion Play that has been staged by the Bavarian village every 10 years since the Black Death in 1633. The event runs from May -October 2000. Prices start at around £790 for athree-night break with DER. The deal includes three-star accommodation with half-board, flights and transfers.



n new marketing themes for bavaria



Bavaria’s marketing themes for 2000 will be: hiking and mountaineering in the Bavarian Alps; musicians and composers, focusing on Johann Strauss, Johannes Brahms, Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss; and Franconia: land of toys, highlighting the region’s toy-making tradition. Visitor numbers to Bavaria are up 15% to 146,477, with overnight stays up to 313,262.



n airtours offers day trip to colditz castle



Airtours is offering day trips to World War II prison camp Colditz Castle and the nearby town of Leipzig in the former East Germany. Departure dates are in December and January, from Gatwick and Manchester. Prices start at £149.
