Virgin Atlantic urges customers to take action over APD

Virgin Atlantic is calling on its customers to take action against the rises in Air Passenger Duty (APD).

All e-tickets from the airline will include an anti-APD message directing passengers to the information site virginatlantic.com/unjusttax.

The airline is also calling on customers to write to their local MP about the increases, and has provided a sample letter.

Virgin Atlantic president Sir Richard Branson said: “The increases will hurt passengers, the airline industry and developing regions such as the Caribbean and Africa, which rely on the airline industry to power their economies, and enable family and friends in the UK to visit loved ones.”

There is no evidence to suggest the taxes are going towards environmental or sustainable projects, he added.

Flying Matters has reported that the increases could price 1.5 million people out of flying.
