The first of four refurbished Airbus A330s has joined the Virgin Atlantic fleet as part of a £10 million investment.
The aircraft has been retrofitted the introduction of a premium cabin, along new Upper Class suites and a refreshed economy section.
Premium features 35 seats in a dedicated private cabin with a 38” seat pitch and bespoke food, drink and service offering.
The remaining three A330-200s refits are expected to be completed by January.
The aircraft will operate on Caribbean services from Gatwick, along with a number of US flights from Manchester.
The A330s were drafted into the fleet in March to provide extra resilience due to global industry shortage of Rolls Royce Trent 1000 engines, used on the airline’s new Boeing 787 Dreamliners.
“Whilst the number one priority was to ensure no customer journeys were impacted, steps were immediately put in place to guarantee the full Virgin Atlantic flair would be evident in every cabin,” the airline said.
All flights offer high speed wi-fi, power in every seat and the latest onboard entertainment with state of the art personal screens in all seats.
Customer experience vice president Daniel Kerzner added: “These planes were introduced to protect our flying programme with a commitment to bring them up to our high standards with our unique Virgin Atlantic flair.
“The speed at which we’ve been able to totally transform these aircraft is phenomenal, and is a true testament to our people and our passion to deliver a wow experience to our customers.”
