Lata Foundation identifies charity projects for 2019

Conservation, poverty relief, education and community development will be the focus of fund raising by the Latin America Travel Association this year.

The Lata Foundation charity has identified at least nine projects to support in 2019 as well as one-off contributions to other essential causes.

They cover Costa Rica, Argentina, Panama, Ecuador, Bolivia, the Galapagos Islands, Peru and Brazil.

A record of more than £75,000 was raised to fund a range of initiatives in Latin America last year. Funds for emergency appeals, such as providing nebulisers to those in need following the volcanic eruption in Guatemala, were also contributed.

The Lata Foundation has raised £283,000 for a range of humanitarian, social and environmental causes since being formed in 2007.

Chairman Chris Pickard said: “Our projects are thoroughly vetted and closely monitored to ensure that funds are going where they are most needed.

“Latin America is a very colourful and vibrant continent and increasingly popular for holidays.

“We would encourage all companies that operate within the region, as well as individuals looking to travel to Latin America to think about how they might be able to give back.

“I would like to thank our trustees, volunteers and donors who have helped drive positive change in Latin America.”
