Seabourn has sold a second older ship to a Japanese company for an undisclosed sum.
The 458-passenger Seabourn Sojourn, which entered service in 2010, will join sister vessel Seabourn Odyssey at Mitsui Ocean Cruises.
The Carnival Corporation luxury brand will charter the ship back and continue to operate all published voyages on Seabourn Sojourn until the completion of its world cruise on May 15, 2026.
Seabourn Sojourn will be delivered to Mitsui Ocean Cruises after the charter period.
“Upon handover, the ship will be deployed by its new owners in a market that is not competitive with Seabourn,” the company said.
Passengers and agents with bookings impacted after May 15, 2026, will receive a message from Seabourn with details on changes or rebooking options.
Seabourn will be left with three ocean ships and two recently launched expedition ships after Seabourn Sojourn leaves the fleet.
The sale of Seabourn Odyssey to Mitsui was announced two years ago, with the shop continuing to operate for the US company until August 2024.
The line added Seabourn Pursuit its the fleet the following month.
Seabourn was not looking to sell Sojourn, but the “incredibly competitive” unsolicited offer was felt to be in the best interests of the company.
Mitsui had already successfully purchased and intorduced Seabourn Odyssey into its business and made a strong offer to add Sojourn to its fleet.
“There are no immediate plans to exit additional ships from our fleet, and there are no plans to sell Seabourn,” a spokesperson said.
“Seabourn is performing very well, with strong bookings and the successful launch of our two new purpose-built ultra-luxury expedition ships.”
Announcing the sale of Sojourn, Seabourn president Mark Tamis said:“With this transition, Seabourn will have one of the youngest and most modern fleets in the business, perfectly suited to offer the private yacht-like experience that makes us one of the world’s most popular choices in ultra-luxury cruising.
“Our award-winning ocean ships combined with our two recently launched expedition ships give us the right mix to serve these important categories in the ultra-luxury travel market while providing our guests with special Seabourn moments in over 500 destinations on seven continents.”
He added: “We are proud that after 16 years in the fleet, Seabourn Sojourn will continue her journeys with Mitsui Ocean Cruises.
“In the coming year, we will find special ways to celebrate Sojourn’s legacy with guests and crew.”
