Holidaymaker killed in landslide in Tenerife

A British woman has been killed in a landslide on a beach while on holiday in Tenerife.

Marion O’Hara, 57, was trapped under a pile of rocks after a 130ft stretch of cliff collapsed on a small beach at Playa de los Gigantes close to the western tip of the island.

It is thought a 34-year-old local woman was also killed in the accident, which happened after 4pm local time on November 1.

According to reports, there was a landslide on the same beach a month ago and sunbathers had been warned to stay away from the area.

British holidaymaker Howard Williams said the area was known to be dangerous.

He told Sky News: “Police had been aware the cliff was dangerous for days, but the only thing they put in place was a bit of builder’s tape.”
