Butlin’s to open world’s first helter skelter water ride

Butlin’s will make a splash in April when it opens the world’s first helter skelter water ride at its Bognor Regis resort.

The 7.4 metre-high water slide is part of a new £40 million seaside-themed swimming pool, which is thought to be one of the largest coastal investments in the UK this year.

Other attractions at the pool include stick-of-rock slides, rapids, a wave machine and areas dedicated to toddlers.

The Bourne Leisure-owned brand worked with parenting website Mumsnet to find out what families wanted most – so the attraction boasts underfloor heating and different changing rooms for smaller and larger families.

Butlin’s said the Bognor Regis resort has seen a 9% year-on-year increase in bookings, partly attributed to the forthcoming opening of the pool.

Resort director Jeremy Pardey said: “Guests repeatedly tell us that a brilliant swimming pool is one of their top three reasons for taking a break at Butlin’s.

“When we decided to build a new one, we wanted to make sure it was innovative, fun, safe and secure; and provided facilities for changing, viewing and refreshments that ensured the whole family could enjoy as much quality time together as they wanted.”

Prices start from £62 per person, based on four people sharing a silver room when arriving on April 22, for four nights.
