Video: Oasis of the Seas sails to home port in Florida

Royal Caribbean International’s newest cruise ship Oasis of the Seas has arrived at its home port Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, after a 14-day crossing from Turku, Finland.

Finishing touches are being applied to the ship ahead of pre-inaugural celebrations in six days’ time, at which popstar Rihanna will perform on stage on the ship. Oasis of the Seas will then make its worldwide TV debut on ABC TV network’s Good Morning America show from 7am to 9am Eastern Standard Time on Friday, November 20.

The pre-inaugural activities can also be followed on the internet at oasisoftheseas.com and on Twitter by following @OasisandAllure and including #Oasisishere in Tweets.

The official naming ceremony will take place on November 30 during a one-night inaugural celebration fundraiser in aid of the non-profit Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Oasis of the Seas‘ first sailing will be a Labadee (Haiti) Extravaganza four-night cruise departing Fort Lauderdale on December 1 2009. Prices start at £559 per person, based on two people sharing an outside cabin.

Billed as the largest and most revolutionary cruise ship in the world, the Oasis of the Seas spans 16 decks, encompasses 225,282 gross registered tons, carries 5,400 guests at double occupancy, and features 2,700 staterooms.

It is also the first ship to feature Royal Caribbean International’s neighbourhood concept of seven distinct themed areas, which include Central Park, Boardwalk, the Royal Promenade, the Pool and Sports Zone, Vitality at Sea Spa and Fitness Center, Entertainment Place and Youth Zone.
