Accommodation booking firm claims boom in Asia bookings

A boom in sales to Asia from the UK has been claimed by Stuba, the new brand created from the merger of getabed and roomsXML.

The company reported year-on-year sales increases of 366% to Vietnam, 46.3% to Indonesia, 35.20% to Japan, 30% to Malaysia, and 22.96% to Singapore.

The actual level of bookings was not disclosed.

The increases come as the company runs a booking incentive prize draw to win tickets to see Take That, Bose headphones, Sonos speakers and iTunes vouchers until tomorrow (Thursday).

Stuba chief commercial officer Matt Stuart said: “We’ve had a fantastic start to the year, particularly for sales to Asia from our UK source market.

“Since the merger, we have had a much stronger focus on sourcing product in the region and it’s really paid off with some strong year-on-year growth.”

He added: “Obviously, huge events such as the Rugby World Cup and the Olympics in Japan is really putting it on the map as a holiday destination, but I think customers are looking for new experiences.

“There have also been a number of new hotels opening in south-east Asia which is helping drive numbers.”
