British travellers to Spain face a series of airport and airline and rail strikes covering the Easter holiday period.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office issued revised travel advice yesterday warning of several strikes planned throughout April affecting air travel across Spain.
Airport security workers at Madrid Barajas airport began a walkout on Friday and it is unclear when this strike will end, the FCO said.
Airport workers throughout Spain will be on strike on April 21 and 24.
Air Nostrum pilots were reported to be staging strikes today (Wednesday) and April 22 to 24, although there were suggestions that these would not now go ahead.
The FCO said: “If you’re travelling during these times, you should prepare for the possibility of delays, allow additional time, and keep up to date with your airline on the status of your flight.”
It added that RENFE Spanish railway company workers have announced a strike for today (Wednesday) and possibly April 24.
Cancellation of trains include some long distance high speed services (AVE).
“You should contact RENFE for information,” the FCO said.
