EasyJet is doubling low fare flights from Gatwick to the Red Sea resort of Aqaba in Jordan.
Two seasonal winter flights a week will run on Tuesdays and Saturdays from October until March, 2020 with one-way fares starting at £29.99.
The coastal city has seen UK visitor numbers rise by more than 20% since the introduction of the direct flights in August 2018, according to the Jordan Tourism Board.
The port city has rapidly become a popular winter sun option and is seeing rapid expansion with the billion-dollar development in two new resorts – Ayla and Saraya Aqaba – with new four and five-star hotels, activitiss, a marina, restaurants and beach clubs.
Additional facilities include Jordan’s first 18-hole championship golf course, a wake-boarding park, and the region’s first water park.
A leading scuba diving destination, Aqaba is located in the south of Jordan, less than five hours flying time from the UK.
The city’s international airport is 20 minutes from the centre of Aqaba, with both new resorts a short journey away.
The ancient city of Petra is a two-hour drive, making it an accessible day trip, while the Unesco World Heritage landscape of Wadi Rum is nearby.
