Engine trouble wipes out Voyages to Antiquity summer season cruises

Ten cruises throughout the summer have had to be cancelled by Voyages to Antiquity affecting up to 3,500 passengers.

The cancellations will allow the line’s single ship Aegean Odyssey to undergo repairs.

The 47-year-old vessel, which carries 350 passengers, needs work to one of its engines.

The line is offering full refunds to passengers with bookings on the cancelled cruises.

They cover departures between May 2 and August 26 covering destinations as far apart as Iceland and the Black Sea.

Oxford-based Voyage to Antiquity hopes the ship will be ready to return to service from September 7.

The company said: “Unfortunately, Voyages to Antiquity regrets to inform guests that it has been forced to cancel ten cruises aboard Aegean Odyssey in the upcoming season. During this time the ship will undergo a repair to her starboard engine.

“All guests affected by these cancellations are being contacted and will be provided with a full refund of payments made.

“We are working closely with our trade partners and doing everything possible to minimise disruption.

“Voyages to Antiquity would like to apologise for the inconvenience these cancellations will cause to our guests.

“The mechanical issue experienced was unavoidable and unforeseeable.

“We have been assured that, following its period in dry dock, Aegean Odyssey will be back in service in time to fulfil the remainder of its scheduled cruise timetable, starting with the Rome-Venice and associated future Grand Voyage itineraries departing from 7 September 2019.”
