Turkish Airlines adds Baku capacity ahead of Europa League final

Turkish Airlines has raised capacity to Baku by 64% ahead of the UEFA Europa League final in the Azerbaijani capital.

The increase in seats on flights from London via Istanbul comes in response to demand from supporters of Arsenal and Chelsea who play in the match next week.

Flight prices with Turkish Airlines start at £1,826, based on flying out next Tuesday and back on Thursday from London to Baku.

Tournament organisers have been criticised by fan groups for the location of the final on May 29 due to the distance and limited flight availability.

Less than 13,000 tickets between both clubs have been released for supporters attending the 68,000-capacity stadium amid claims that Baku’s airport is not capable of handling any more.

Those opting to fly with Turkish Airlines will have to transfer in Istanbul at the city’s new airport to reach Azerbaijan.

The carrier’s London general manager Celal Baykal said: “Turkish Airlines has a long history of supporting football across the globe, so when the opportunity came for us to help local fans reach the final, we have taken this opportunity.

“As the airline that flies to more countries than any other, we look forward to welcoming onboard fans from both teams during the upcoming days and hope to see them travelling with Turkish Airlines again soon.”
