Welsh travel agent threatened by robber

A Thomson agent has allegedly been threatened with a weapon by a robber who then stole cash from the foreign exchange bureau.

Reports suggest an off duty police officer, police community support officers and members of public helped catch the suspect.

Police have confirmed a 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged with robbery following the raid at the Barry in Wales shop last Friday.

A Thomson spokesman confirmed that the operator is helping police with their enquiries and added: “Four members of staff were in attendance at the time and the alarm was raised as the intruder left the premises. There were no injuries as a result of this incident.

“Customer and staff safety is of the utmost importance to Thomson. All retail staff follow a strict training programme which includes advising them how to act should an isolated incident of this type occur.”

The company is offering the affected members of staff support and assistance in association with a recognised counselling body.
