Silver Travel Advisor reveals awards shortlist

The shortlist for this year’s Silver Travel Awards has been announced after a record 140,000 votes were cast.

More than 40% more votes were submitted by consumers compared to last year in 21 award categories.

The ceremony takes place at Bafta in London’s Piccadilly on June 26 and will be hosted by broadcaster and TV legend Dame Esther Rantzen.

Travel Weekly is trade media partner.

New for 2019 is a Best Travel Agency award. Shortlisted agencies are: Thomas Cook, Barrhead Travel, Co-Op Travel, Trailfinders, Hays Travel and Bolsover Travel.

Two travel businesses will also be recognised for their ideas, innovations and initiatives designed for the over-50s in the Silver-i Awards in both marketing and product development categories.

Debbie Marshall, managing director of Silver Travel Advisor, said: “The scale of public voting, with over 140,000 votes cast, make these awards a real barometer of how well travel companies are recognising the opportunity that older travellers represent.

“Travel is the number one priority for many over-50s and in a challenging year, the silver pound is proving particularly valuable for the companies that have best met the needs of this diverse audience. From expedition cruises and adventure holidays to self-catering holidays and beach breaks, these awards cover the ever-broadening spectrum of trips taken by silver travellers.

“This year, we’re pleased to introduce our first ever Travel Agent award, turning the spotlight on those in the front line who are delivering the very best service and support for older travellers.

“This is where long-term loyalty can be won or lost, and the shortlisted companies all deserve congratulation for having earned the respect – and the votes – of their clients.  It’s a hard-fought category.”
