Ash crisis: Leger helps out with Tui and Virgin rescue

Escorted tour operator Leger Holidays has been drafted in by Tui Travel and Virgin Holidays to help rescue holidaymakers stranded by the cloud of volcanic ash over Europe.

Marketing director Huw Williams said: “We are working with a number of major tour operators to do all we can to help passengers stranded abroad return to the UK.

“We have been involved in Tui’s rescue effort, which is hoping to return 5,000 passengers home as soon as possible. We are also working alongside Virgin Holidays.

“Any spare seats on our coaches in Europe are being made available to stranded holidaymakers and we are currently helping to bring home groups stuck in Spain and Italy, with more expected to follow as the situation progresses.

“We are also advising people that just because airports are closed, it doesn’t mean that you have to cancel your holiday completely.

“We have availability on a number of our no-fly coach tours for people in the UK hit by flight cancellations this week but who want to holiday abroad.”
