Corfu trial: Andy Cooper takes the stand

The trial of two Thomas Cook reps and nine Greeks over the deaths of two children in Corfu in 2006 continued today with Andy Cooper, who was then director of the Federation of Tour Operators, taking the stand.

Cooper, who is now Thomas Cook’s government and external affairs director, was appearing in his former role which he held when Christianne Shepherd, seven, and her brother Robert, six, from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, died after a faulty boiler leaked gas in their bungalow at the Louis Corcyra Beach Hotel in Gouvia in October 2006.

Cooper was preceded by Thomas Cook legal director Michael Hallisey on the stand in Corfu.

The trial is expected to continue tomorrow with independent gas expert Tom Magner due to give evidence.
