HOTELS dismiss on average 6% of their staff a year – three times more than any other industry, according to a Government-backed report.
The Britain at Work survey revealed that workers in the hotels and restaurant sectors are also four times more likely to get the sack than the average employee.
A combination of pressures at work and poor pay are cited as reasons why people working in hotels are among the least satisfied members of Britain’s workforce.
Low morale is also probably due to the fact that the job structures are not unionised. Workplaces which have union recognition tended to have more stable and productive staff, the survey revealed.
The study of 2,200 managers, 1,000 worker representatives and 30,000 employees was the largest workplace survey carried out anywhere in the world.
