World Rainbow Hotels sees Pride month booking boost

World Rainbow Hotels, which represents more than 1,200 LGBTQ-friendly hotels and resorts, claims bookings rose 31% year-on-year in June, which was Pride month.

Founded eight years ago, the consortium is the only LGBTQ group with global distribution systems accreditation.

Along with the rise in bookings, it reported a similar increase in listings requests from potential hotels during June, as more properties marked Pride month and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising in New York.

Furthermore, the growth reflects increased demand for LGBTQ travel and honeymoons, following the legalisation of same-sex marriage in several countries, said World Rainbow Hotels.

It cited Out Now’s Global LGBT2030 research programme, which estimated that LGBT travel spend in 2018 totalled $218 billion, and is set for further growth.

Mark Lewis (pictured), chief executive of HotelREZ Group – which owns World Rainbow Hotels – said: “Over the last eight years we have gradually built the World Rainbow Hotels inventory and accreditation marque.

“It’s the only one of its kind and demonstrates our commitment to this important area of the hospitality industry.

“Pride gives all businesses the opportunity to focus on diversity and inclusivity which is a great thing.

“However, this growing segment also represents a lucrative incremental revenue stream for hoteliers.

“When they can get their service and offer right for this discerning market, it delivers great dividends.”
