The CAA has advised people not to respond to emails claiming to be from the authority saying it can arrange compensation for people caught in the recent volcanic ash cloud flights ban.
The emails say they are from a Frank Adam, CAA protection officer, but the authority has said there was no one of that name in the organisation or compensation being offered.
Recipients of the emails are offered up to £2,000 compensation but web watchdogs have said they are likely to be asked to pay an “administration fee”, or be sent a fake cheque before being asked to wire the fee.
The CAA has warned any personal information provided in response to the emails is likely to be misused and people should immediately delete them.
