AITO to hold November conference in Brussels

The Association of Independent Tour Operators will hold its 34th annual conference in Brussels.

The conference will be held from November 19-22 and chairman Derek Moore said following last year’s conference in Kerala, it was decided to hold the conference closer to home.

He added: “In a year where aviation has been the subject of much discussion, AITO has decided to skip the need for a third runway or exorbitant Air Passenger Duty charges and have a conference that is accessible by train.

“For 2010 we felt that it was important to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum and Brussels by Eurostar was the logical choice. I have no doubt that many delegates will already be familiar with this historic city and be looking forward to a return visit.

“The Belgian Tourist Board deserves considerable thanks for sourcing a great venue and providing a range of excellent excursions to the castles and breweries of the Meuse Valley and a trip to Spa, home to the Belgian Grand Prix and I would also like to thank Rail Europe for their assistance with the rail travel.”

“I am delighted that the AITO Conference 2010 will be in Brussels,” added Philippe Maree from the Belgian Tourist Office.

“We will not take that opportunity to showcase our capital to city break operators but also tempt AITO members to discover the southern French speaking part of Belgium with four different post tours with one common factor: good food.”
