IHG bolsters UK and Ireland hotel portfolio

IHG Hotels & Resorts has signed eight additional hotels in the UK and Ireland across its collections.

The openings include Luxury and Lifestyle property Hotel Indigo Leeds which is set to open in Q2 this year as well as three Premium collection hotels, including voco London – Marylebone, which opened last year and marks the brand’s first property in London; voco Corby, which is expected to open in late 2025; and Crowne Plaza East Midlands Airport, opening in Q2 this year.

The group has also debuted its Essentials Garner brand in the UK with the opening of Garner Hotel Preston Samlesbury this month, with additional properties in Reading and Nottingham also set to open this year.

The Holiday Inn Express London – Woolwich has also been signed, with an expected opening date of late 2029.

Speaking to Travel Weekly, head of development for the UK and Ireland, Matt Walton, said of the group’s growth in the region: “The UK remains a very conversion-led market so that focus is there for us. The launch of Garner and our recent acquisition of Ruby are all in that conversion space.

“Our commitment in the UK and Ireland market remains. In terms of our pipeline, we are extremely confident and positive about the year ahead for the region.”

Vice-president and manging director for the UK and Ireland, Joanna Kuroaska added that the UK and Ireland is “one of the most strategic markets for IHG in the world,” representing the group’s third biggest market after the US and Greater China.

The region represents 40% of business in Europe.

“It cannot be underestimated how important the performance of the UK and Ireland is for our results,” said Kuroaska.
