Orlando, cruise and Iceland lead Barrhead Travel booking trends

The Florida theme park capital of Orlando has emerged as the top-selling destination by Barrhead Travel for 2020.

European holiday spots dominate the Glasgow-based agency’s 20 most popular destinations for next year, heaeed by the Canary Islands, Balearics and mainland Spain.

However, other long-haul destinations in demand include Cancun in Mexico, New York and Dubai.

Iceland tops a separate list of 20 destinations which have attracted the largest increase in bookings compared to last year, up 55%.

The agency also reported soaring demand for cruise holidays, particularly for winter 2020 departures which are up 54% year-on-year. Mediterranean itineraries continue to be a popular choice with Asian itineraries on the rise.

Barrhead Travel president Jacqueline Dobson said: “Iceland proves to be an up and coming destination for 2020. Besides being home to such diverse and natural wonders, the country also acts as a perfect springboard to destinations further afield such as Canada, Orlando, Boston and more.”

This finding echoes a rise in consumer demand for multi-centre holidays. Major cities listed as ‘rising stars’ such as Dubai, Bangkok and Paris, act as vast connecting hubs while also combining to offer extended holiday itineraries.

Dobson added: “Customers today are interested in seeing more than one destination during their travels, hence the increased demand for cruise and multi-centre getaways.”
