Disney is to provide the UK travel trade with record levels of financial support next year to coincide with its millennium celebrations, reports Updesh Kapur from Orlando.
It is believed marketing funds have increased by 30% to £10m to help capitalise on business from the theme park’s number one market.
Walt Disney Attractions European vice-president Tom Allen said: “We spend a lot of marketing dollars in the UKand we are pleased to be able to increase the level of financial support to our partners to grow the market further.”
Allen added that the extra funds will be used for joint print and TV advertising, educational trips and an expanded training programme.
He reported on-site hotel bookings and theme-park ticket sales from the UKwere up 10% on last year’s figure but declined to reveal numbers.
The millennium celebrations featuring new attractions and activities will run until January 1, 2001.
Meanwhile, Euro Disney is opening a £400m second park at its site outside Paris which will open in the spring of 2002. Disney Studios will be themed around the movies, TV and computers.
