Low-cost competition forces Debonair into crisis talks

DEBONAIR was in crisis talks with its bankers to save the airline as Travel Weekly went to press.

The low-cost airline originally issued a statement last Thursday saying it had called in administrator Deloitte Touche, blaming cut-throat competition from EasyJet and Go.

Chairman and chief executive Franco Mancassola blamed the airline’s problems on intense competition in the no-frills sector.

Last month, ABAirlines also called in administrators, blaming the rise in competition from rivals Go and Virgin Express.

ABNAmro European aviation analyst Damien Horth said: “My concern is that Debonair does not have enough capital. I am not surprised by the situation.”
