Thomas Cook has won clearance from the European Commission for the £25.1 million takeover of German operator Oger Tours.
The EU competition watchdog said the acquisition would not damage market competition. Europe’s second-largest tour operator, unveiled the deal in July, forecasting annual synergies of more than €8 million.
The Commission said: “The parties will continue to experience strong competition from TUI , Rewe, Alltours and FTI, as well as from numerous small independent package holiday operators.”
German consumers would still have access to package tours at competitive prices once the deal is done, it added. Oger Tours, founded by Turkish-born businessman Vugel Oger, specialises in selling package holidays to Turkey.
