Tui Travel has become one of the top companies in the country for its efforts to tackle environmental issues.
The company is the only tour operator to be featured in the FTSE 350 Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for its approach to carbon disclosure.
The company has received a carbon disclosure score of 90, a 27% improvement on last year’s score of 71. Tui is ranked sixth in the index, compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers on behalf of the Carbon Disclosure project.
It highlights FTSE 350 companies which have displayed the most professional approach to corporate governance regarding climate change disclosure practices.
High scores indicate good internal data management and understanding of how climate change-related issues affect companies.
Tui Travel chief executive Peter Long said: “We have a firm commitment to manage our environmental footprint from the board level down.
“We have been putting measures in place to reduce our current and future carbon emissions. Our goal is to reduce our direct emissions by 6% by 2013-14.”
