WTM 2010 preview: Europe stands


Turkey EM800


The Turkish Culture and Tourism Office UK will be celebrating reaching seventh spot in the latest United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) ranking of top 10 most-visited countries by tourist arrivals, and showing attendees the many reasons why its tourism industry is racing ahead.
 
Delegates can also find out about all the latest developments in the country, and Istanbul, which is currently basking in the glow of being 2010 European Capital of Culture.


Germany EM500


The German National Tourist Office and 40 tourism partners will be uniting behind the 2011 theme ‘Health and Wellness in Germany’, showcasing the huge range of spa and health breaks on offer in the country.


Visitors will also be able to find out about the activities planned around 2011 being the 125th anniversary of the motor car, such as Automobile Summer 2011, to be held in Baden-Württemberg.


WTM visitors will also be able to check out an ‘ICE truck’ – a converted truck that looks like one of Deutsche Bahn’s InterCityExpress (ICE) trains – and find out about the top-class rail travel options in Germany while helping to celebrate 175 years of railways in the country.


Austria EM400


Head to the Austria stand to find out about developments in regions such as SalzburgerLand including Air Berlin’s new Stansted-Salzburg service starting on December 2. And don’t forget to visit the stand at 5.30pm on the Tuesday for the annual Austrian evening.


Croatia EM1250


Ever wondered why more of us Brits are falling in love with Croatia? Head to the Croatian National Tourist Board stand to find out what attracted 56,526 UK visitors in August alone, and find out about new developments such as easyJet’s five-times-a-week service from Gatwick to Zagreb, starting in February, and also new products from operators such as Classic Collection and Sovereign Luxury Holidays.


Cyprus EM1900


About 50 travel partners including hotels, ground operators, airlines and regional tourism bodies will be represented on the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO) stand, with some first-time exhibitors including Akti Beach Holiday Village and Elea Golf Club, which has a new par 71 course designed by Nick Faldo.


Find out how the CTO is planning to capitalise on recent improvements, such as the new Larnaca airport and the planned €350 million Limassol Marina project, with a new logo and advertising campaign in 2011.


Tenerife EM1500


Tenerife Tourism Corporation, will be promoting its new online agent training tool, TenerifeXpert (tenerifexpert.com), and celebrating the launch of Jet2.com’s new Glasgow-Tenerife service and a £1.8 million programme of new responsible tourism initiatives in the offing.


Menorca EM165


Other Spanish exhibitors include Menorca Tourism who will unveil a range of new tourist initiatives and visitor attractions, designed to highlight its historical British influences, having been under British rule for 74 years in the 18th century.


Swing by the stand to find out more about this and the reopening of the 115-mile Cami de Cavalls coastal route following a €1 million restoration project. 


Air Malta EM740


Plus, Air Malta will be offering its visitors the chance to win tickets to see Fulham v Manchester City – and rumour has it that a Fulham football player may even visit the stand.

Other exhibitors include Iceland Express, which will be promoting its new flight routes to the US on stand EM100a.
