Royal Caribbean International has partnered with iconic comic book The Beano to inspire agents ahead of Allure of the Seas’ seasons sailing out of Barcelona in 2020.
The line commissioned designers to develop a comic strip which will be included in a family pack distributed to agents from December.
Agents can choose to give out the family pack to children once they have made a Royal Caribbean booking.
In The Beano comic strip, the line’s associate vice president and managing director, UK & Ireland, Ben Bouldin invites fictional family The Menaces on board the 5,492-passenger vessel following its $165 million transformation.
The Oasis-class vessel will undergo a 58 day dry-dock next year ahead of its summer season.
After the revamp, the ship will feature 10-storey slide Ultimate Abyss; the trio of waterslides called The Perfect Storm; family-style restaurant Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar; kids aqua park Splashaway Bar; and live entertainment venue Music Hall.
Bouldin said: “Allure of the Seas will be getting an incredible $165m makeover before she sets sail from Barcelona in 2020.
“It’s the perfect holiday for families but without any new images or footage as yet we had to think differently about how to keep Allure front of mind with agents and potential guests, particularly new-to-cruise audiences who have no understanding of the wealth of activities we offer on board.
“So, what better way to demonstrate everything that Allure has to offer than to invite Britain’s most famous family – the Menaces – on board and create a story around their ‘first look’ in Barcelona in 2020.”
From May 2020, Allure of the Seas will be sailing seven-night Western Mediterranean itineraries from Barcelona.
Ports of call include Palma de Mallorca, Spain; Marseille, France; La Spezia, Civitavecchia, and Naples, all Italy.
