WTM 2010: Tenerife to promote adventure, culture and gastronomy

The Tenerife Tourism Corporation is to focus on its diverse range of attractions to boost visitor numbers.

The Canary island is being presented as a diverse destination with offerings including adventure, festivals, culture, family fun, gastronomy, golf, luxury, nature, off the beaten track, spa, and Mice.

The Tenerife Island government, the Canary Islands Tourism Council and the Spanish National Tourist Board have contributed €3.64 million to develop the island in the past three years.

To complement the destination’s effort to develop new products, the corporation, in conjunction with the Tenerife Island Government, the Arona, Adeje, Puerto de la Cruz and Santiago del Teide and the island’s Hotel Association, has implemented a joint agreement to regenerate tourist areas.

It includes projects to construct a walkway from Arona to Adeje, two of the island’s most popular tourist areas, and a bicycle route to encourage visitors and residents to use alternative means of transport.

The island has hosted 65 agents on fam trips this year and plans to host more in 2011.
