Agents’ Malta tips: A scenic seaplane ride, by Neil Basnet

How do you make the most of Malta? Travel Weekly asked the 10 agents we sent to the island to cover Abta’s Travel Convention

Neil Basnett, Tana TravelThe best things in life are unplanned! After a visit around the lovely new cruise ship Seabourn Sojourn, my fellow adventurers Daniela and Clive from eWaterways and I arranged an excellent Italian lunch at the port followed by a 30-minute scenic seaplane tour. Luckily, the weather had improved and the flight turned out to be the highlight of my stay!

“We took off from Valletta’s Grand Harbour aboard our 14-seater seaplane and our 30-minute tour gave us the chance to marvel at the beauty of all three of the main islands – Malta, Comino and Gozo.

“Initially we flew along Malta’s northern shore, which gave us a wonderful aerial shot of all the hotels and Convention Centre around St Julian’s Bay that had been home to us all during the Conference.

“We took in St Paul’s Bay and Mellieha Bay before continuing over Comino to Gozo, where we had fabulous views of the capital, Victoria. We then circled the south coasts again before a spectacular landing back on the waters of Grand Harbour.

“Any visitor to Malta should take this exhilarating experience, which can be pre-booked through Belleair Holidays. Prices range from £65 to £109, according to the season, and it’s worth every penny.”
