Hertz acquires German licensee


Hertz has acquired its former licensee for Germany, Autohof Rhine-Ruhr Autovermeitung, in a bid to strengthen its position in Europe. The company said the takeover will add eight locations to Hertz’s corporate network in Germany.


ABC Holiday extras gets 2000 approval


Action 2000, the body set up by the Government to help private firms prepare for the millennium bug, said operator ABC Holiday Extras is now year 2000 compliant. All the company’s vital technology functions passed tests carried out to simulate the move into the millennium, and the firm also showed it could operate manually should the need arise.


River taxis to serve Millennium Dome


A river taxi service is to take passengers to the Millennium Dome. It will offer return river travel and admission to the Dome from central London at half-hourly intervals from new piers being built at Waterloo. Ticket prices will be £27 for adults and £20 for children. For customers who buy admission elsewhere, travel will be £8.40 return for adults and £5.20 for children.


Hire for lower to host agents party


Hire for Lower is to hold its annual party for travel agents at London’s Hippodrome night club on November 16 to coincide with World Travel Market. The car-rental firm has hired chart bands Another Level, Phats and Small and ATB and will lay on free drinks and coach travel home. Call 020 74911111 for information.
