Explore claims carbon offset first

Explore claims to be the first UK-based operator to offset all flights and ground operations using verifiable carbon credits as part of a ‘decarbonisation’ strategy.

The operator is working with UK carbon offset group ClimateCare to offset all remaining carbon emissions from flights and ground operations.

Explore, one of the founders of the new Tourism Declares a Climate Change collective, has promoted former yield and capacity manager Prue Stone as head of sustainability to manage the project as part of the company’s responsible travel philosophy.

She will head Explore’s carbon neutral strategy as well as initiatives to reduce single-use plastics on its tours and maintaining a head office zero-waste-to-landfill status.

Explore managing director Joe Ponte said: “Prue is passionate, knowledgeable and committed to ensuring that we’re doing all we can to operate sustainably both in head office and on our trips around the world.

“Responsible travel runs through the very core of our business and we’re really excited that as of January 1 any booking made with Explore will be carbon neutral.”
