Location: Carteras is a stunning villa in the middle of open countryside. Part of Mallorca Farmhouses’ exclusive collection, the villa is approached via a tiny dirt track and is one of the finest properties in the Pollenca area, facing south with fabulous views to distant mountain ranges.
Only six miles from the beach and three minutes’ drive to the nearest supermarket, it mixes apparent solitude and privacy with absolute convenience and accessibility.
Indoors: The property is full of character and interesting features and is decorated to the highest standard, with a stylish, contemporary finish. Sleeping 10, it has five bedrooms and five bath or shower rooms. There is a large kitchen and comfortable lounge, with a huge formal dining table at one end and an enormous TV at the other. There is also a separate WC and utility room.
Outdoors: A huge covered terrace running the length of the villa with two large tables, a sofa area and table tennis. There’s a 60 square metre pool, barbecue with separate eating area, and landscaped grounds full of date palms and olive and fruit trees – great for playing football, cricket or hide and seek, depending on the ages of the guests.
We loved: The fact that it felt like we were in the middle of nowhere. Had we not driven to nearby Port de Pollenca to go to the beach or out to eat some evenings, the only person we would have seen all week was the farmer driving his tractor up and down the neighbouring field (an added bonus for my machinery-mad son!).
The covered terrace meant we ate outside for every single meal. Another incredible plus was the maid who was supposed to come three times in the week but in fact came almost every day and cleaned the house from top to bottom.
Who would it suit: Two of the bedrooms are in a slightly separate wing of the house with their own front door, balconies and terrace with table and chairs, so it would be ideal for either a large family with any age children or a number of families travelling together or a group of friends.
