The leadership of International Airlines Group’s Spanish airlines is being reshuffled when chief executive Willie Walsh steps down in the spring.
Javier Sanchez-Prieto, chairman and chief executive of low cost carrier Vueling, will switch to take charge of Ibera.
He will be succeeded at Vueling by current Iberia chief commercial officer Marco Sansavini.
They will both take up their new roles in late March when Walsh is replaced by Iberia chairman and chief executive Luis Gallego.
Walsh said: “I’d like to congratulate Javier and Marco on their new roles and am absolutely confident that they are the right people to lead Iberia and Vueling.
“Both have worked in the group for several years and have fantastic track records, proving once again that we have extremely talented people internally that we are able to promote to our top jobs.”
Gallego added: “Both Javier and Marco have considerable knowledge and experience of the Spanish and international markets.
“I’m delighted that they will be part of my team when I take up my new role and I’m confident they will continue to develop their airlines’ successful strategies”.
Sanchez-Prieto has led Vueling for three years and was previously strategic planning and finance director at Iberia between 2013-16 where he was instrumental in achieving the airline’s financial turnaround.
Sansavini has been commercial chief at Iberia for seven years, having previously worked for Alitalia and Air France-KLM.
